Part Numbering System for Maxi-Bolt Anchors, Undercutting Tools and Cutter Inserts
Maxi-Bolt Anchors
Part numbers for Drillco Maxi-Bolts use one of the three following templates:
For ASTM A193 Grade B7 anchors
MB-Diameter Series-Overall Length-Sleeve Length
For ASTM A36 anchors
MBA36-Diameter Series-Overall Length-Sleeve Length
or
For all Stainless Steel Types
SAMB-Diameter Series-Overall Length-Sleeve Length Material Description
Maxi-Bolts ordered under the SAMB designation must give a Material Description as there are four stainless types to choose from. See the materials specification page for details.
Diameter Series
The Diameter Series may be one of the following, depending on the anchor's stud bolt diameter:
250 | 1/4" |
375 | 3/8" |
500 | 1/2" |
625 | 5/8" |
750 | 3/4" |
1000 | 1" |
1250 | 1 1/4" |
Overall Length for A193 Grade B7 (High Strength Carbon Steel)
The Overall Length is given in inches and should be in even inch increments over or under the standard reference lengths, given below, to accomodate the end marking system:
1/4" | 250 | 4 1/4" |
3/8" | 375 | 6" |
1/2" | 500 | 8 1/4" |
5/8" | 625 | 10" |
3/4" | 750 | 13 1/2" |
1" | 1000 | 16 1/2" |
1-1/4" | 1250 | 20" |
Thus a 1/2" anchor (500 Series) can have any of 6 1/4", 8 1/4", 11 1/4", etc. as an overall length.
Overall Length for A36 (Mild Carbon Steel) and All Stainless Steel
The overall length is given in inches. The overall length must be an integer (no fractions).
Sleeve Length (All Materials)
The Sleeve Length can be any number in increments of 1/4" - 5", 5 1/4", 5 1/2", 5 3/4", etc. The Sleeve Length may differ from the embedment depth of the anchor in concrete as, for example, when the sleeve is allowed to project through a hole in the attachment plate. (Type II Installation).

Maxi-Bolt Flush-Mount Coupling Anchors
Part numbers for Drillco Flush-Mount, Coupling Maxi-Bolts use one of the three following templates. Note that the Maxi-Bolt Anchors and Couplings (See Reference F in Figure 2 of the Flush-Mount Detailed Installation Procedure) must both be ordered as separate items:
For ASTM A193 Grade B7 Flush-Mount, Coupling anchors
FMB-Diameter Series-Overall Stud Length-Sleeve Length (Anchor Bolt)
MBCP-Diameter Series (Coupling)
For all Stainless Steel Type Flush-Mount, Coupling anchors
SAFMB-Diameter Series-Overall Stud Length-Sleeve Length Material Description (Anchor Bolt)
SAMBCP-Diameter Series Material Description (Coupling)
Maxi-Bolts ordered under the SAFMB designation must give a Material Description as there are four stainless types to choose from. See the materials specification page for details.
The coupler description should match the conical nut description.
The following steps should be followed to determine the Diameter Series, Overall Stud Length and Sleeve Length numbers to fill into the above templates.
Diameter Series
The Diameter Series may be one of the following, depending on the anchor's stud bolt diameter:
375 | 3/8" |
500 | 1/2" |
625 | 5/8" |
750 | 3/4" |
1000 | 1" |
1250 | 1 1/4" |
Minimum Embedment Depths
In order to accommodate the lengths of both the coupling and a minimum acceptable sleeve length, the anchor's embedded length must meet or exceed the following minimums. The Embedment Depth can be any number in increments of 1/4" - 5", 5 1/4", 5 1/2", 5 3/4", etc.
3/8" | 375 | 3" |
1/2" | 500 | 4" |
5/8" | 625 | 4 1/2" |
3/4" | 750 | 4 1/2" |
1" | 1000 | 7" |
1-1/4" | 1250 | 8 1/2" |
Overall Stud Length
The Overall Stud Length is calculated as a function of the anchor's embedment. To determine the overall stud length subtract the appropriate number in the following table from the embedment depth. For example, a 1" Maxi-Bolt with a required embedment of 12 1/2" would have an overall length of 11 1/4" (12 1/2" required - 1 1/4" from the table):
3/8" | 375 | 3/4" |
1/2" | 500 | 1" |
5/8" | 625 | 1" |
3/4" | 750 | 1" |
1" | 1000 | 1 1/4" |
1-1/4" | 1250 | 2" |
Sleeve Length
The Sleeve Length is also calculated as a function of anchor embedment depth. To determine the sleeve length subtract the appropriate number in the following table from the embedment depth. For example, the same 1" Maxi-Bolt cited above requiring a 12 1/2" embedment would have a sleeve length of 9 7/8" (12 1/2" required - 2 5/8" from the table:
3/8" | 375 | 1 5/8" |
1/2" | 500 | 2 1/8" |
5/8" | 625 | 2 1/8" |
3/4" | 750 | 2 1/8" |
1" | 1000 | 2 5/8" |
1-1/4" | 1250 | 4 1/8" |

Accessories for Flush-Mount, Coupling Anchors
There are four different accessories available for use with Flush-Mount, Coupling Anchors. All are designated by their Prefix followed by the Diameter Series as given in the tables above.
- Setting Sleeves - Prefix MBCP-SS. See Figure 5 of the Flush-Mount Detailed Installation Procedure
- Setting Rod (Stud Extender) - Prefix MBCP-SR. See Figure 5 of the Flush-Mount Detailed Installation Procedure
- T-Handle Wrenches - Prefix MBCP-WR. Used to tighten the anchor's coupling nut.
- Thread Protectors - Prefix TP. Plastic protectors to keep dirt and debris out of the coupling nut's threads when the anchorage is not in use.
Undercutting Tools
Part numbers for Drillco Maxi-Bolt Undercutting Tools use one of the following templates:
Fixed Depth: MBTA-Diameter Series-Undercutting Depth-WC (No WC for 1/4" and 3/8" tools)
Variable Depth: MBTB-Diameter Series-Least Undercutting Depth-Greatest Undercutting Depth-WC (Option not available for 1/4" and 3/8" tools)
WC indicates a water cooled tool.
MBTA or MBTB Designation
The MBTA designation is for a fixed undercutting tool. The MBTB designation denotes a variable tool.
Diameter Series
Although the diameter of the Undercutting Tool is physically larger than the diameter of the anchor's stud bolt, the same diameter series designations which are used with the anchor are used with the Undercutting Tool. This is true of all tools and accessories used with a particular diameter anchor. So, if you are installing 1/2" anchors, all tools and accessories used with 1/2" diameter anchors will share a 500 diameter series designation.
Undercutting Depth-Least Undercutting Depth-Greatest Undercutting Depth
Tools come with either one fixed Undercutting Depth or a range of undercutting depths, in 1/2" increments, between the Least Undercutting Depth and the Greatest Undercutting Depth.
Examples
MBTA-750-9 1/4-WC | A 3/4" fixed depth, water cooled undercutting tool for undercutting at 9 1/4" |
MBTB-500-8 1/4-10 1/4-WC | A 1/2" undercutting tool with undercutting depths between 8 1/4" and 10 /14" in 1/2" increments. The tool is also water cooled. |
Cutter Insert Blades for the Undercutting Tool
Drillco Undercutting Tools come with replaceable cutter insert blades. This means that the body of the tool is long lived while the cutters wear and must be periodically replaced.
Part numbers for the Cutter Insert Blades use one of the two following templates:
MBI-Diameter Series
MBID-Diameter Series Note: Not available for 250 (1/4") or 375 (3/8") Diameter Series.
MBI or MBID Designation
The MBI designation specifies carbide faced cutter blades while the MBID designation is reserved for cutter blades with diamond inserts. The choice of carbide or diamond cutter blades will depend on several factors such as the hardness of the concrete aggregate and whether or not rebar will be encountered. Contact a Drillco representative for guidance.
Diameter Series
As with the anchors and undercutting tools, use the diameter series chart to match the cutter insert to the underlying anchor diameter.
